26 Stages Of Adopting A Rescue Animal

#1. On the way home, you pass by your local animal shelter and decide to go in for a quick look-see.

#2. You promise yourself not to make any impulsive decisions while you’re there.

#3. Five minutes into your visit, you feel confident you can hold on to your promise.

#4.  But then you see the world’s most adorable living creature… and your willpower crumbles.

#5. You try to leave but then you take one look into the animal’s pleading eyes and know it’s a hopeless cause: you’ve fallen in love.

#6. “It’s a good idea to get a rescue animal,” you keep telling yourself.

#7. After a quick phone call to your landlord, you tell the attendant you want to take the bundle of adorable home.

#8. A quick orientation from the animal shelter later, and you feel 100% ready to be a pet parent.

#10. The next day, you return to the shelter to fill the necessary paperwork. You pinch yourself to check if you’re dreaming.

#11. You take your new baby for a quick visit to the vet to check they’re in good health.

#12. The two of you also stop by a pet store to get a leash and other animal things that are more expensive than your own human ones.

#13. During the ride home, you sit your brand-old pet close and decide together what name suits them best.

#14. You finally settle on a ridiculously cute food-inspired name such as “sprinkles” or “cookie”.

#15. When you get home, you show them their bed and designated play area.

#16. They decide to sleep on your bed instead and claim ownership of the entire house.

#17. You attempt to discipline them. They laugh at your failed attempts and poop on your new carpet.

#18. For the next few months, they continue to ~lovingly~ unleash hell upon your house.

#19. After a while, you get used to sharing your mattress with a ball of fur, and said ball of fur finally lets you potty train them.

#20. Your friends visit “you”, but refuse to acknowledge your existence once they see your pet.

#21. You don’t blame them. Who could resist that furry face?

#22. Your pet quickly climbs the priority ladder to become your best friend.

#23. The two of you go on fun-filled adventures together. They are the Timon to your Pumbaa.

#24. Before you know it, a year goes by, then two, then ten. You can’t imagine where your pet would be if you hadn’t rescued them.

#25. Then you think about how different your life would have been.
